The first signs of Autumn are appearing in the garden and out and about. The leaves are beginning to turn, beautiful reds and oranges take over the from the different shades of green everywhere. Even the Bonsai are showing their Autumnal colours. Plums, apples, blackberries abound and thoughts turn to collecting this fantastic harvest and preserving for use over the winter and spring. Apple jellies, chutneys and jams are all in the process of being made. There are signs in the garden of the squirrels collecting nuts and pine cones to tide them over the winter months. The grass does not need cutting so often and the leaves are beginning to fall. The nights are drawing in and we begin to think about lighting fires, drawing curtains and spending cosy evenings in front of the fire. Roger is busy splitting wood that has been drying over the last 12 months, raking up leaves and generally tidying up. Walks amongst the rustling leaves on a sunny, bright day, even though there is a slight nip in the air, is so enjoyable.
