How we started - a little bit about us
In 2018 we celebrated 20 years running Glengarry B&B. We purchased Glengarry in 1998, as Roger says, in a fit of madness! We moved from England to Scotland and neither of us had any experience in the tourism or catering fields, as Roger is an Engineer and I had worked in Accountancy. However, we were and still are, full of enthusiasm and have a passion for making our guests feel welcome. The first guest arriving just 9 days after we moved in and he has been coming 3 or 4 times every year since, sadly he passed away this year 2021 during one of his visits to Kingussie.
The property needed complete renovation and this work was carried out over a period of two years whilst Roger was still working in Cheshire. He would arrive on a Friday evening with a list of work for the weekend and return early Monday morning, leaving a list of work for me to carry out during the week - this whilst still running the B&B and at that time also offering dinner to guests.
We tackled everything from plumbing, joinery, building to fitting new double glazed windows, moving tons of earth to create parking spaces and landscaping the garden. The only professional help we received was for the electrics.
Over the years we have welcomed guests from almost every country in the world and many of these have become true friends.
B&B has changed dramatically in these 20 years and we have tried to move with the times. The most noticeable change has been in the food offered - guests now expect an extensive menu at breakfast and as one of my passions is food, I thoroughly enjoy providing visitors with something a little different.
A few years ago we purchased a Motor Home so that we could explore every nook and cranny in Scotland and to date there are many places still to visit. Scotland is definitely one of the most beautiful countries in the world and we thoroughly enjoy living in this glorious part of the Highlands.
We hope you will visit us and fall in love with Scotland as much as we have.
